T-shirt and Sweatpants

I just started my 4th quarter at FIDM this week and when in school, I am all about comfort.  Being a fashion student though, I do not just schlep to class in a t-shirt and sweatpants.  This outfit is my fancy take on a fashion no-no.  My leather top from Anthropologie redefines the t-shirt and my silk sweatpants from Allsaints (with Jeffrey Campbell heels) are luxe and comfy at the same time.  I added a vintage studded belt, leather bracelets and silver rings to finish off the look.  Comfort should not outweigh style.

Bon Appetit Oakland

lightsA family friend of ours Tony Salguero, is the head chef at the amazing French bistro on Lakeshore Avenue, Michel Bistro.  My husband and I had an amazing time catching up with family, having some delicious cocktails and mouthwatering French food. I sat down at the bar and ordered a Gainsbarre, whiskey, honey, lemon and verbena which was refreshing with that whiskey kick that I love. The sweet hostess sat us down, and we were in for a real treat. We started out with the soup of the day, cream of cauliflower with pickled cauliflower and salsa verde and it was one of the tastiest soups I have ever tried.  Then we sampled the bison tartare with quail egg and grilled baguette. Everything was fresh and perfectly prepared.  Next, We tried bone marrow for the first time, it was rich and flavorful with a hint of lemon. and the roasted garlic gave it an amazing sweet flavor. For our entree, Roger and I shared the lamb burger with aged cheddar, peppercress and aoili, which we think was the star of the meal. It was cooked on point medium rare, the bun was fresh with the perfect ratio to meat, and the house made pickle added a yummy crunch.  Throughout dinner my sommelier Father-in-law picked French wines from the extensive wine list to complement our meal. We loved the modern decor and dining experience ,and decided to celebrate our first wedding anniversary here on July 20th. If you get the chance, this place will not disappoint… Bon Appetit!

Wild West

I am a SUCKER for western fashion and prints ever since my Mom rocked Ralph Lauren in the 90’s.  My love for everything western was renewed 2 years ago on a road trip I took across Montana, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California in this 1967 Mustang we lovingly named “Boss Lady.” It was a middle of summer, with no air conditioning, towel on the seat, American muscle road trip. We were bringing her home to be our getaway car from our wedding (and my husband bought and fixed her up at the age of 14).  My ensemble today is a chic take on western with a Sanctuary western print blazer, Allsaints leather bralette, vintage Pierre Cardin wide leg pants (from my mama), Jeffrey Campbell wedges, an Allsaints hat  and one of my first statement bags from way back, a Chloe Paddington.  Happy summer roadtrippin…safe travels my loves and check out those new hood pins on the ‘Stang!

Maple Bacon Heaven

I have been hearing about James and the Giant Cupcake for a long time and had yet to try it.  I was in charge of dessert  for a dinner party with a couple friends last night so I decided to make the trip over to North Oakland.  This place is quite the little gem! The cupcakes are displayed in cute clear cake trays with handmade signs and they even have vegan and gluten free options.  There were at least 20 options because it was Saturday (they have a daily menu of offerings on their website) so it was a hard decision.  I brought home Salted Caramel (with fresh sea salt that she added when boxing it up), Maple Bacon (with real bacon topping), Red Velvet (my go to cupcake) and Peppermint Patty (with a little chocolate peppermint on top).  All of the cupcakes were delectable, but I absolutely loved the Maple Bacon!  If you are in the mood for a cupcake in the Oakland, give this little cupcakery a try!!

Navy is the new Black

I usually ALWAYS go for black, but a new fresh addition of navy accessories to my wardrobe is changing my mind.  My navy Chanel flap bag and Boutique 9 booties are my go to shoe and bag of the moment.  They mesh with almost every color and will translate through each season seamlessly.  Today I am wearing my favorite Dusen Dusen circle skirt dress and an Allsaints leather jacket that has been a staple in my closet for 3 years with the beautiful backdrop of Oakland’s Jack London Square.

Sunset Romp

Warmer weather is upon us and this means two of my favorite things: taking in these beautiful Oakland sunsets and living in rompers.  I finished my finals at FIDM today and finally have the chance to savor the little things that I love the most.  I found this romper for $60 at Anthropologie and cannot count the outfits to which it has contributed.  Rompers are a no brainer; its a full outfit and just needs accessorizing. I chose an hermes constance belt, celine sunnies, spectator booties and a vintage louis vuitton saddle bag.  I am ready for a vacation and cannot wait to show you the ranch in Mammoth Lakes, CA.  I spent childhood summers there and will be fly fishing, drinking beers and hanging with my nearest and dearest to celebrate the 4th of July.  Summertime and the livin’ is easy, at least until school starts again 🙂

Black and Tan

Whoever said black and brown do not go together obviously is not familiar with Chanel. One of the most chic and easy to wear neutral color combinations is black and tan. Today I am wearing a black silk Acne Studios dress with a teardrop back cutout, black and silver Jeffrey Campbell Booties, silver jewels and a tan Celine.  Simplicity is key.  Happy Friday, heres a great whiskey cocktail that I discovered a few years back when I lived in Haight Ashbury with the same namesake, Black and Tan, that will get your weekend started off right 🙂 Oh, and check out that Oakland view helicopters and all….

What would Penny Lane wear?

I woke up vibing to Led Zeppelin BBC sessions early this morning, so naturally as I was getting dressed this morning I was in a 70’s mood.  My favorite movie, Almost Famous, came to mind, and today I am channeling my favorite character Penny Lane. I am still obsessed with crop tops and high waisteds–I threw in some crochet over a leather bralette to salute the decade and add some edge. I topped it off with some sky high Jeffrey Campbell clogs to give it some height.

Loved the sweet pitbull cameo from the shop next door to where we were shooting 🙂

Next Level Statement Necklace

As a stylist, I always love a good statement necklace to take an outfit from ordinary to fierce. I recently discovered the NYC based jewelry designer, DYLANLEX and she is changing the game. I ordered the Sienna necklace and I never want to take it off. I paired it with a simple flowy silk top, vegan leather pants and some lace up Jeffrey Campbells, but without this beautiful piece, this outfit would be nothing.

Vintage Luxe

What is Vintage Luxe you ask? It is the mixture of current yet classic pieces with treasures found along the way and it is my fashion philosophy. The journey is the most important aspect of life and quality is much more important than quantity. I learned from my mother that paying for the high end classic pieces from the best labels is an investment and certain pieces always appreciate. I taught myself to dig through racks of vintage clothes in Haight Ashbury, flea markets in Helsinki, and roadside turquoise artisans in the middle of Utah to find the one of a kind garments and jewelry that have become like old friends in my wardrobe.

Follow me on my quest  for more old friends in the fabulous ensembles I wear, eating food I love, meeting amazing people and discovering the places I go in the Bay Area and around the World ✧
