Romantic Edge.

It’s been a while since my last fashion post, so I thought I’d share the outfit I wore today!  I am obsessed with Free People’s assortment right now and this tunic is the perfect piece to transition into summer.  My style always has an edge, so I paired it with these scalloped vegan leather shorts.  It was super cold and windy today, so I added some tights and my favorite cream booties (similar) and voila, romantic edge.  I cannot wait to style both of these pieces when the weather warms up, so stay tuned!

Ranchin It.

This Memorial Day weekend, we got away from it all in Mammoth Lakes, CA with my god sister, (who is basically my other big sister) and some great friends on her family ranch .  We usually go with both sets of parents, but this time, we did a kids weekend.  This place is a slice of heaven on earth.  There is no electricity, only a generator and gas lamps, enabling us to unplug from it all and really enjoy each other’s company.  Everybody contributed to groceries and we watched sunsets with beers, and cooked dinner together every night.  There was some amazing weather that rolled through including thunder, lighting, hail and plenty of sunshine in between.  We brought our dogs and they loved it so much didn’t want to leave!  It was the perfect little vacation before I start my new job at Stitch Fix at the end of this week.  Now its back to reality with a renewed appreciation for the simple things that make me happy.

Oakland Hidden Gem: Old Weang Ping

Ever since we moved to Oakland almost two years ago, this little Thai restaurant, Old Weang Ping, is our go-to for a delicious and affordable date night.  This gem is hidden in a little residential neighborhood on Macarthur, but if you read the 5 star yelp reviews or articles from East Bay Express and KQED (here and here), you will want to make the trip.  It feels like you are walking into a restaurant in Thailand in the 50’s with traditional decorations, twinkle lights, and Frank Sinatra playing in the background.  The owner pours thai iced tea upon sitting down, and lets us look at the menu.  It is truly traditional Thai country cooking, not like any other Thai I have tasted.  On this trip, we got our 4 favorites, Crab Cakes, Chicken Satay, Beef Pad Se Ew (this variation has Spaghetti-like noodles instead of the traditional thick noodles) and Pork Yellow Curry( which has mango, pineapple and potato, yummy!) and a side of sticky rice.   We also recommend the Barbarian Soup, Coconut Milk Soup, the Exotic Herb Salad, and the Spicy Basil Fried Rice.  The portions are generous, and you really feel like you are in a family-run restaurant. Roger and I will keep going here as long as we live in Oakland.

PS:

Its cash only, so be prepared 😉

Goddess

I recently received an amazing brand ambassador care package from one of my favorite online jewelry destinations, Sucre Couture.  These ladies hooked me up with some to-die-for pieces that seriously  make me feel like a goddess (or queen Khaleesi) when I wear them.  The Her Excellency necklace is one of the most amazing pieces I have ever seen.  It will definitely be my go to statement necklace this summer.  I am wearing it with a simple black maxi from urban outfitters  and it totally makes the outfit.  I paired the necklace with  the Fair Warning cuff bracelet to finish off this goddess look.  I am so excited about Sucre Couture and will be checking their site on a weekly basis!

Whirlwind NYC Weekend

Life has been super packed lately, sorry for the lack of posts!  In the past month I was hired for a new job at Stitch Fix, had my sister and baby nephew in town, and spent last weekend in New York for my Aunt’s wedding.  I’ll be back on track with weekly posts from now on!

Our weekend in NYC went so fast… We red eyed it on Thursday night into JFK, checked into Le Parker Meridien, and took a nap to fight the Jet Lag.  Before we knew it, it was time to get ready for our Aunt Lizzie and Uncle Jordan’s rehearsal in Harlem at First Cavalry Baptist Church and rehearsal dinner at La Cremaillere in Bedford, CT.  To the rehearsal, I wore a sequin top from Allsaints (similar), an Allsaints leather jacket (similar), vintage Pierre Cardin palazzo pants (similar) and my nude Louboutin peep toes.   That was day 1.

Here are pics of my rehearsal dinner outfit and the amazing lobby/ bar at Le Parker Meridien.

The next morning, I woke up early to get my hair done at Drybar, which was conveniently located in the basement of our hotel.  Then I headed upstairs to get ready for the wedding.  I wore an art deco dress by Le Luxe, heels by Jeffrey Campbell and a wrap by Ralph Lauren. The ceremony was touching and personal, with great music and energy.  Then we headed off to Cecil in Harlem for a gorgeous reception where we had amazing food and danced the night away.

On Sunday, we woke up for a wedding brunch at Landmarc, Columbus Circle.  We stayed till the end, rehashing with our loved ones about the awesome wedding the night before.  Then we jumped into an Uber to Brooklyn for a visit with my sister, brother in law, and our adorable nephew.  They brought us to a lovely Sunday potluck at a friends place down the street.  We ended the night up on the roof watching the sunset over Manhattan.  Finally, back at their flat and to bed for our  6:30 am flight back to Oakland.  This weekend was full of family, friends and love, and reminded Roger and I of how lucky we are to have so many gorgeous, talented, smart and caring people in our lives.

Sunday Brooklyn Vibes…

Turquoise and Fringe

I LOVE mixing vintage and current pieces!  Roger and I went on a movie date on Piedmont Avenue and we did a little shoot before the movie.  Twilight is the best lighting, I call it magic hour.  I really love how these pics turned out thanks to my awesome man.  I am wearing a vintage fringe jacket, a black midi dress by Urban Outfitters, a vintage conch belt and ankle strap booties by Charlotte Russe.  A fashion rule that I like to break is mixing black and brown. My rule of thumb is choosing a piece (like my booties) that is two tone, so you can mix and match.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Sunday Jumpsuit

I am a huge fan of rompers and jumpsuits!  They are so easy to outfit for a casual Sunday like today, or with heels and jewelry for a night out.  I was thumbing through the new Anthropologie catalog one afternoon last week, and I came across this perfect lightweight jumpsuit for Spring/Summer.  I wore it to the beach this weekend and then to dinner, and people were stopping me asking where I got it.  I love to be comfortable and don’t necessarily  like to show a lot of skin during warmer months, so I am going to get a ton of wear out of this little number…

I hope you all have a lovely week 🙂

Shades of Green

Spring is upon us, and I am super excited to add more color into my wardrobe. Bright green is one of my favorite pops of color this season.   I found this gorgeous crop top by Leifsdottir at Anthropologie, and paired it with a high waisted sheer black chiffon maxi skirt from Charlotte Russe, and my black Birkenstocks for a casual date night in downtown Oakland.  This outfit is a great transition from winter to spring.  I cannot wait to outfit this top with fun high waisted shorts when it starts to warm up!

Happy hump day!

Plaid Weekend

I popped into Anthroplogie SF (where I was the personal shopper for 2 years) on the way to lunch in the Haight Ashbury at Magnolia Brewery.  I ran into some of my favorite ladies that I used to work with, and did a little shopping.  I found this great light-weight plaid shirt dress by Holding Horses, which is a perfect transitional piece for the cold weather right now.  I outfitted it with my favorite Joie leopard booties (on sale, not that many sizes left!!!),  an Allsaints toggle sweater (similar), and Hue tights to keep my leggies warm.  In spring, I plan to wear it with cute sandals and some fun arm candy 🙂 This weekend Roger and I had some much needed family time on the peninsula and we are ready to start the work week!!

Rainbows and Rottweilers

I absolutely love exploring Oakland with Roger and finding amazing graffiti backdrops for our shoots.  We came across this wall in East Oakland and it was the perfect setting for a technicolor rainbow shoot with our adorable rescue Rottie, Murphy.  It is getting warmer in the OAK (and I cannot wait for spring) so I went with a springy multi colored sheer blouse from Anthropologie, edging it up with coated denim from Citizens of humanity (on sale!!), my fave Allsaints pork pie hat (similar), a heavily studded vintage low slung belt (similar), my Dylanlex necklace and Jeffrey Campbell booties (similar).  The red lipstick that I have been obsessed with lately is Gioirgio Armani red #400, it is a perfect shade for all seasons.  I hope you all are having a great start to the week and stay tuned for more Oakland adventures 🙂
