Pop of Leopard

I consider leopard a neutral and I love the fun twist a leopard pair of shoes can add to a simple outfit.  We are going out on the town in Oakland tonight and I wanted to do a sexy tomboy look.  I am wearing a sheer button down by Anthropologie (similar), liquid leggings by Charlotte Russe and Dalton booties by Joie (on sale!!)  I am obsessed with these boots and cannot stop wearing them!

We are having  a nice relaxing valentine’s day weekend and I hope you all have a lovely weekend with the ones you love!!

Brooklyn Vibes.

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I have been having a ball in Greenpoint, Brooklyn meeting my 2 week old nephew Wesley for the first time and hanging with my family.  My sister Sara and her husband Steffen moved to Brooklyn way before it blew up with stores and restaurants as people made the mass exodus from Manhattan to the BK.  They have had this amazing warehouse space for years that Steffen gutted and built into an amazing 3 bedroom place, and with his and my sister’s interior design skills, it has turned out organic and beautiful. They are a huge design inspiration to me for our house!  I always love to come for a visit, especially when there is a little baby nugget to hold.  It was also really fun to walk around and photograph Greenpoint streets, the old brick buildings and graffiti are right up my alley.

We stayed at The Box House Hotel which has super cool decor, antique taxi cabs for a car service and full kitchens in the room in case you want to have a relaxing night in the room.  Everything is super walkable, so getting groceries, or picking up takeout is super easy.

Of course I did an impromptu photo shoot (photo cred to my Mom) to show at least one outfit I wore on the trip. The first day was not super cold yet, so I wore my J Crew denim button down, Anthropologie sequin joggers (on sale now!), Charlotte Russe Booties, an Allsaints beanie (similar), Giorgio Armani lipstick and a Celine bag.  It was laid back, but still luxe at the same time.

My three favorite meals were the pastries and coffee at Bakeri, the sage egg panini (and everything else) at Five Leaves and the “Hellboy” pizza from Pauly Gee’s.  All of these places have their own unique vibe and amazing food.  I am such a foodie, so Greenpoint is heaven for me!

I hope you enjoy the recap of my little trip and recommendations, I cannot wait to go back 🙂

Ear Candy

I have been really into distinctive jewelry lately.  From head chains to collar tips, I love the new ideas that are coming out of sites like Honeydrip and Sucre Couture.  You don’t have to wear a statement necklace to make a jewelry statement (although I do love a good statement necklace).  My favorite new piece is this jeweled ear cuff from Honeydip, it makes a simple outfit like this Allsaints dress and Jeffrey Campbell shoes really sparkle. I added a ring also by Honeydrip to top off a simple look that really showcases the accessories.

Red and Cheetah

Red and Cheetah is my go to anytime I want to feel glamorous.  It evokes old Hollywood which is one of my favorite eras of style.  A red dress like this one from Anthropologie (similar) will always spice up your wardrobe and can transition from Winter to Spring/ Summer seamlessly.  I have worn this to both holiday parties, and with sandals to dinner in Hawaii.  A Cheetah or Leopard print coat is another investment, like the leather jacket that you can wear this over a dress or over jeans and a t-shirt and still look stylish. I hope you all are having a great weekend, wish me luck on the job search next week 🙂DSC_0260 DSC_0270 DSC_0286 DSC_0291 DSC_0256 DSC_0252 DSC_0283 Outfit Details :: Dress :: Anthropologie (similar) Coat :: Free People (similar) Shoes :: Anthropologie Bracelet :: Marc Bernstein Watch :: Cartier

Leather and Butterflies

A leather jacket is a must have in any wardrobe, and an investment that only gets better with wear.  This Allsaints jacket is 5 years old and I still bring it out at least once a week.  It is the perfect piece to add edge to feminine pieces like this butterfly print silk dress.  Also, a black and brown two tone boot enables you to wear a brown or black purse while still looking put together.  My favorite pair that I had for 5 years finally fell apart from wear 😦 but I found these awesome versatile booties at Charlotte Russe for $30!!! They have some really good bargains and cute styles right now, and I was lucky to stumble across them.  I am all about mixing luxury staples with bargain trends and this outfit is the perfect example.

I hope you all are having a great start to the New Year, stay tuned for more 🙂

Brown Sugar Love

Okay, so Roger and I are Chicken and Waffle connoisseurs. We even had Chicken and Waffles as a buffet choice at our wedding by Karen Bevels Custom Catering (she and her team were AMAZING).  I was first introduced by Grandma and Grandpa Hunter in LA at Pann’s (my fave in LA and the diner scene in Pulp Fiction was filmed there, so that adds a coolness factor).  Roscoe’s is good too, but Pann’s has a special place in my heart.

In Oakland though, Brown Sugar Kitchen takes the cake.  This gem has been written up in hundreds of publications including Oprah Magazine and Chef Tanya Holland, who learned to cook soul food growing up and then attended Formal Culinary School in Burgundy, France has created a fusion like no other!  The cornmeal waffles are light and airy, served with a light apple cider syrup that keep the waffles crisp and scrumptious.  The chicken has the perfect ratio of batter to meat and the Tarragon and Paprika give it a unique kick that I love.  We also tried the cheddar bacon biscuit and the beignets which are also to die for.  This place is a must try and I recommend getting there early.  We arrived around 9 and were seated within 10 minutes, but after that it got packed and it looked like a 40 min wait for a table for 2.  The wait is definitely a testament to this Oakland staple!

After brunch, we did a little style shoot on the side of the road.  It is still pretty cold so I went with an Allsaints sweater (similar), resin coated Citizens of humanity jeans, Free People booties and my fave dark purple Cyber lipstick by MAC.

Happy Saturday and I hope you all have a wonderful week 🙂

Faux Fur and Sequins

2014 has been a whirlwind year!  My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary, and our first year of being homeowners.  I also finished my graduate program at FIDM, and am on the job hunt! Now that I have finished school, I am going to delve into cooking and interior design in our home.  Stay tuned for updates on our home and recipes in the new year! We have been so blessed with amazing friends and family to share such a wonderful year with, and we cannot wait to see what 2015 brings!

Last night we had a low key night a Michel Bistro in Piedmont with awesome friends.  I wore a faux fur top by Anthropologie, sequin jogger pants by Anthropologie and my nude Louboutins.  I was going for comfortable and luxe at the same time 🙂

Wishing you all a 2015 full of health, happiness, growth and love!

Weekend Tomboy

I love to juxtapose menswear with feminine details, especially on the weekend because it is so comfy!  We spent Christmas in LA with my in-laws, and then drove to La Selva Beach the following day to hang with my family.

My husband and I went on a dog friendly lunch date in Santa Cruz at the Harbor Cafe and then we walked down to the beach to take some photos of a relaxed but stylish weekend.  I am wearing a chambray button down by J. Crew, resin coated boyfriend jeans by Allsaints (similar) and python print flats by Free People.  Paired with awesome sunnies, red lips and big hoops, this is the perfect boyish/ fun weekend outfit!

Looking forward to the New Year and new projects that I cannot wait to share with you all 🙂

Christmas Plaid

I hope you all are having a lovely Christmas.  We had a dressy dinner with immediate family last night and today we have 26 loved ones coming for Christmas dinner.  I am so excited to catch up with my LA fam that I haven’t seen yet 🙂

On Christmas day, I am all about cozy comfort with a splash of style.  My husband and photog Roger and I took a walk around my Grandparents’ neighborhood and shot some fun photos.  The Santa Ana winds are really strong this time of year, but the weather is beautiful.  I have never had a warm Christmas in my life and I am not mad at it!

I wore my favorite soft plaid shirt by Lena Case (similar), Rag and Bone denim, my army jacket and army green Sixty Seven (similar) Booties.

Merry Christmas, I hope everyone has a relaxing and fun day with their nearest and dearest!

LA Sparkle

Oh my goodness! We have had such a busy holiday season…not only did we have to prepare and shop for the holidays, I was in my last quarter of grad school at FIDM!  I am super proud to announce that I finished my program studying product development with flying colors, and I cannot wait to start interviewing for jobs to start my career.

For now, my husband and I are focusing on family, relaxation and happiness up until the New Year.  We drove down to LA today to spend Christmas with my in-laws and we are so happy to be here.  My Grandparents in law grew up and were married in Omaha, shipped off for military duty (with the kids) in Germany and settled in LA in the same house that I am staying in for the holidays 🙂 It is so much fun looking at pictures and hearing stories about the family I married into and am so grateful for all of them.

We took these photos overlooking LA on my Grandparents’ deck.  It is so pretty here, and I really missed my family in LA.  Tonight I am wearing a sequin blazer (similar) and chelsea boots (similar) by Anthropologie, a sheer black button down by Allsaints (similar), denim by Citizens of Humanity and a Celine bag.  I am also OBSESSED with this pink lip crayon by Lipstick Queen.

Wishing you all a Merry, Merry Christmas, and love, peace & happiness in the New Year!
